I enjoy public speaking and frequently present on emergency management, navigating crises both personal and community-scale, how to make personal preparedness fun, my disaster response / recovery experiences, higher education emergency management, and natural hazards. I offer customized presentation options including workshops, trainings, breakout sessions, plenary sessions, keynote and Ted Talks style deliveries. Recent 2026 speaking engagements have included a two hour emergency management workshop for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a keynote presentation at Chapman University’s Disaster Resilience Summit with researchers and emergency managers from the western US.
Below you can find the full 28 minute keynote presentation that I gave at Chapman University. This was my first time speaking publicly about The Anatomy of Resilience and sharing how my experience with a rare cancer diagnosis shaped my work as an Emergency Manager.
In 2023, I spoke on various Emergency Management & resilience topics across the state of California for audiences large and small. Below is a compilation of some speaking videos and photos, including my largest event as a plenary speaker for an international audience of emergency managers during the 2023 EM Vision series.
I was selected to speak on the plenary stage for an international audience of emergency managers in both 2018 and 2023 as part of the EM Vision Talks. See below for short samples of my speaking style during this Ted Talks style event.
My 2023 talk was titled Diamonds in the Rough and focused on hiring practices in Emergency Management.
My 2018 talk was on using interactive methods in preparedness outreach and I shared examples from my Beat the Quake Earthquake Escape Room and my award-winning Zombie Preparedness Scavenger Hunt.
